Battery Point used to be a place of ill repute but it is now a very exclusive suburb of Hobart, next to Salamanca and the city centre. Some of Hobart's most expensive real estate can be found there. Battery Point has some lovely old houses and a few good cafés, restaurants and boutiques.

Best things to do in Battery Point:

  • walk around Battery Point and enjoy the architecture, the history and the views of the Derwent River
  • delve deeper into the history of Battery Point by following the Sculpture Trail that starts near the silos in Salamanca
  • enjoy breakfast or lunch at Jackman and McRoss, a classic bakery/café on Hampden Road
  • admire the beautiful little cottages at Arthur's Circus, a circular road lined with historic buildings that used to house officers of the garrison (there is a lovely little park right in the middle of it)
  • have a meal or takeaway at Da Angelo, Hobart's most famous Italian restaurant www.daangelo.com (book in advance as it is always full)
  • visit Narryna Heritage Museum for some beautiful colonial furniture and decorative arts www.narryna.com.au
  • have a beer or a meal at 'Shippies' (Shipwrights Arms), a gorgeous old pub with a strong connection to the Sydney to Hobart yacht race www.shipwrightsarms.com.au
