Inchman ant
While not endemic to Tasmania the inchman ant (Myrmecia forficata) is very common because of the cool climate.
Their venom is one of the most powerful of the insect world. Like its cousin the jack jumper ant (Myrmecia pilosula) the bite can cause a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
